Caps Claim Bantam B Crown
St. John's Caps edged the Southern Shore Breakers 3-2 to capture the DJHL Bantam B Championship on Wednesday night at Twin Rinks. Caps sweep the best of five series in three straight games. Riley Snelgrove was the offensive sparkplug for the Caps, scoring twice and adding an assist on the other marker. Snelgrove banked a shot in off goalie Nathan Brothers to open the scoring in the first and followed with an exciting goal on the rush mid-way through the second. Snelgrove’s second goal came at an opportune time as the Breakers held a big edge in puck possession up to that point in the period. With momentum swung in their favor, the Caps lit the red lamp again as Christian O’Leary scored what proved to be the game winner on a quick pass down low from Snelgrove. Jarrett Carey ruined Devon Burt’s shut-out bid with a hard wrist shot from the slot on the power play early in the final period. Ryan Fitzgerald and Ronan Houlihan assisted on the play. Zach O’Brien’s point shot several minutes later fooled Burt to move the Breakers to within one. Brothers provided his best saves in the third as his team pressed hard for the equalizer. However the Caps defensive game was equal to the test and gold was not to be denied. Fans were treat to an exciting showcase of Bantam B hockey. Bravado to both teams! TP
