Caps Score 5 in Game 5 to Win Atom B Title
St. John's Caps defeated the Paradise Warriors 5-4 at Paradise Arena Complex on Monday night to win the DJHL Atom B crown. The game 5 win came after the Caps won the first two games 3-0 and 5-3, only to have the Warriors storm back with 3-2 and 4-1 victories in the best of five series. The game winner came from the stick of Jacob Russell early in the third period. Russell also scored during a three-goal rally within a space of 78 seconds late in the middle frame from the Caps artillery. Included in the rally was a highlight goal from Owen Barrington, who dangled through the Warrior defense to score on a breakaway. Caps also got goals from Hudson White and Noah Boland. The Warriors had jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead on a pair of goals from Conner Hussey and a single from Joel Kelly. The momentum then switched in the Caps favor, pulling ahead 5-3 before Kelly scored his second of the night late in the third. It was an exciting finish to a terrific series. Kudos to both teams on entertaining the approximate 200 fans who attended the match. The Caps now hit the road on Wednesday to attend the SEDMHA Tournament in Halifax. Only the Peewee B gold medal series and Peewee A bronze medal series remain to be concluded to end the 2017 DJHL Play-off Season. It's been a memorable one. TP
