Week 5 in our DJHL play-off season saw the first medals awarded as Peewee A wrapped up and Atom B decided its gold medalists. As the number of series left to play narrowed down to nine, several individual performances stood out along the way. Here are the Sportscraft Stars of the Week. First star is awarded to forward Josh Murray of the RBC Thrashers for his natural hat trick against the Crushers to lead his team to a 5-1 victory on Monday night and a place in the bronze medal series against the Guardians. Josh was also a scoring threat all game on Friday as the Thrashers skated to a 3-2 victory over the Guardians in their series opener. Second star is awarded to goes to defenseman James Chubbs of the Peewee A Division Champions, the RBC Scorpions. James was a stand-out for the Scorpions in their play-off campaign, scoring big goals and leading the break-out rush, and constantly busting up plays in his D zone. As luck would have it, James also scored the golden goal in the Scorpions Championship win over the Jackals on Monday night at Goulds Arena. Third star goes to defenseman Andrew Power of the RBC Generals. Andrew raised his game to another level in games 3 and 4 of the Bantam A Division Finals, scoring in both matches and battling hard in the D zone both nights against the high scoring Gladiators. Andrew and his teammates were rewarded with 5-2 and 4-1 victories to force a 5th and deciding game for gold in the DJHL’s top division. Watch for the big match following the NL Winter Games. This week’s Honorable Mention list includes Nicholas Rose of the Guardians for his two goal effort in Game 1 of the Bantam A bronze series; forward Haley Ryan of the Scorpions for showing how hard work and determination sometimes can be more impressive than points on a scoresheet; Keegan Stuckless of the Generals for sniping two big goals in game 4 of the Bantam A finals to help extend the series; and to right winger Ian Morris of the Northeast Eagles, who used his speed, strength and sheer determination to stand out in game 4 of the Bantam B finals on Friday night. Ian scored a key goal for the Eagles as they won 5-1 over the Pacers to force a 5th and deciding game next week. Winners can claim their gift certificate prizes at Sportscraft on Ropewalk Lane.
