Week 7, almost the final week of the DJHL Play-off Season (Bantam A bronze game on Tuesday remains), featured your expected menu of delightful post-season offerings. Gold and bronze medals were awarded in Bantam A, and bronze medals were also given out in Bantam B. Peewee B, and Atom B. The Sportscraft Stars of the Week 7 includes a reliable defenseman who is a role model for younger female players in the League, an AP forward who has proven he belongs, and a centreman who skated tirelessly and led by example in a bronze medal match. First star goes to Anna Barrington, defenseman with the Bantam A Champion RBC Generals. Anna’s accurate break-out passing, responsible defensive play, and unselfish play were always there during the Generals run to the top. So, it was only fitting that Anne blocked a Connor Molloy shot from in the blue paint that was destined for an open corner with only seconds left to preserve the lead for the Generals in the fifth and deciding match. #Character Second star is awarded to Kris Condon, forward with Guardians. Kris played with grit and determination all game and scored as his team forced a third and deciding game in the bronze series against the Thrashers as a result of a 3-1 victory on Tuesday night at Twin Rinks. Third star goes to centreman Rylan Swain of the Goulds Pacers Peewee B Team. Rylan stood out for his consistent and strong effort every game during the Pacers run to bronze. His forechecking often led to turnovers and his playmaking often led to goals for a team that prides itself on collective effort. Honorable Mention goes to forward Connor Molloy of the RBC Gladiators. Connor’s tenacity, second effort on the puck in tight and offensive skill in the Bantam A final really stood out – the kind of effort that impresses coaches at any level of play. Big shout-out to all coaches and managers who nominated players over the past seven weeks and bravo to Sportscraft for making the whole promotion possible.
