U13B Celtics are Sportscraft Playoff Team of Week 1

Winner of the Sportscraft Playoff Team of the Week in the first week of the DJHL post season is the U13B Avalon Celtics.

The Celtics squad finished the regular season in 5th place in their division with a record of 3 wins, 17 losses and 4 ties. The team averaged 2 goals per game, but struggled defensively, surrendering over 4 goals on average per game. That all changed in the quarter-finals.

In Game 1 of their First to 4 Points series against the 4th place St. John’s Caps (who finished 14 points higher than them in the standings) at DF Barnes Arena, the Celtics, lead by the hat trick from Jakob Bartlett, edged the Caps 4-3. Two of Bartlett’s goals came 25 seconds apart in the second period.

With Game 2 in the series looming at Twin Rinks, the Celtics found themselves down both regular goalies due to illness or injury. Cameron Lake answered the call for night duty between the pipes. While the call-up goalie took care of business in the blue paint, the team in front of him got down to business. When the final buzzer sounded, the Celtics had secured a 3-1 victory and a series sweep.

The DJHL will be arranging a visit for the Team Captain of the U13B Celtics to Sportscraft to claim prizes for their teammates. Bravo to an impressive team effort!
