Winner of the Sportscraft Playoff Team of the Week in the second week of the DJHL post season is the Scotiabank Puffins of our Girls U13AA Division.

The Puffins squad finished the regular season in the cellar in their division with a record of 5 wins, 14 losses and 8 ties. The team averaged less than 2 goals per game, while surrendering almost 3 goals on average per game. But our Puffins seemed to come out of hibernation once the playoffs started.

In their First to 4 Points semi-final series, the Puffins faced the high-scoring 1st place Scotiabank Falcons, a team that finished 19 points higher than the Puffins in the standings. During Week 1 action, the teams split the first two games. Puffins surprised the Falcons 4-1 in the opener before their worthy opponents rallied back with a strong 7-4 win in Game 2.

Game 3 on Wednesday night at Goulds Arena in Week 2 was a crowd pleaser as both teams battled to the wire and a Game 4 looked very likely. However, the talented Athena Wilson was the hero for her Puffins in the end, scoring the golden goal with less than three seconds to play to give her team a 3-2 victory and a spot in the League finals against the Scotiabank Ravens.

Honorable mention goes to the 4^th place U11B Eagles, who rallied back from an opening loss against the 5^th place Caps by putting together two exciting 1-0 victories to advance to the semi-finals.

The DJHL will be arranging a visit for the captaincy of the Puffins to Sportscraft to claim prizes for their teammates. Bravo to a team that really turned things around in the playoffs!
