The 15th edition of the DJHL will feature a lot of changes – changes that, with exception, are directly linked to the planning process at the Metro Presidents’ Table in which the DJHL was an active participant. Here are the most significant changes:
- To align with Metro Presidents’ new “One Team” policy, no full-time player in the DJHL can be registered as a full-time player on another team outside of the DJHL, nor within the DJHL;
- Two-line Girls Pooled Hockey will no longer exist in the DJHL at the U13AA and U15AA level. Most competitive female players will now play in the Girls Metro Hockey League in the A Division (DJHL remains committed to working close with the GMHL as it gets ready to expand);
- The Girls U15 AAA Ice Breakers will compete in the DJHL U15 B Division for the full season (this will be the only team these 17 talented players will compete on this season);
- No player will be permitted to simultaneously try-out for a DJHL Pooled Program and another team not owned by the DJHL;
- The League hopes to start at least the U15AA division by October 15th;
- DJHL will introduce C division play at U15, U13, and U11. These players will play only on their club team for the full season. Larger Clubs will be able to register two balanced teams in any C division if talent and numbers warrant it; and
- Subject to HNL Minor Council approval, the DJHL will host a series of Metro Cup games for the 3 local U15AAA teams and the 3 U13AAA teams. Each team will play 10 games leading to a sudden victory semi-final and sudden victory final. These games will not interfere with Provincial League play and may also include Tri-Pen teams.
