Eastern Ice Breakers Earn Week 2 Playoff Honors

The winner of our Sportscraft Playoff Team of the Week for our second week of action is the GU15AAA Eastern Ice Breakers. With their 3-2 win over the Paradise Warriors on March 6th, the Ice Breakers became the first ever all-female team to win a playoff game in Metro minor hockey history. The Ice Breakers, like their “cousins” the GU13AAA Puffins, are blazing the trail for future high-performing female athletes to compete on ice against their male counterparts.

What made the Ice Breakers’ historic win so special was that they found themselves late in the game having to defend against a 6 on 3 situation with goalie Ava Russell forced to use a defender’s stick when she lost her goalie stick. Avery Strong’s earlier empty netter proved to be the game winning goal. A fitting end to a monumental game.

The DJHL will arrange for our Ice Breakers to receive their prizes from Sportscraft in the coming days.

Team Managers are encouraged to submit nominations for our weekly promotion. Deadline is Sunday evening. Read about it on our home page news feed.
