Two Photos, One Message
Rewind to 2011, when the St. John's Minor Hockey Association and the St. John's Pennecon Privateers were about to host the Telus Cup National Major Midget Hockey Championship at Mile One. At a press conference launching the event back then, two young twin Caps players posed with Don Johnson, the event's Honorary Chairman, as they received the first two tournament passes for the event. The left photo here captured that moment. Fast forward to 2016, those two young players are now in the final leg of their time in the League that now bears Don Johnson's name - the DJHL. Evan and Eric now skate with the RBC Crushers and are big contributors to the team's impressive offensive attack. Evan claimed this season's unofficial point scoring race and Eric finished comfortably in the middle of the Top Ten. Posing together for a portrait when the team's photographer came by was just the right thing to do (shown here to the right). All-star hockey demands a lot of commitment from those who play it, the families who support it in every way, and the volunteers who run it. That commitment is at the core of the game's legacy. Don Johnson understood the importance of honoring the game and its legacy. Our two photos placed side by side bring that message home once again. Don would have paused, filled up a little, and agreed.
