Atoms Dominate Sportscraft Stars of Week #2

With three of four spots in Atom A and B Division finals decided during Week 2 of the DJHL play-offs, it’s no surprise our Sportscraft Stars of the Week all go to Atom players. Because we respect the “Goalie Union”, the First Star goes to the goalie tandem of Kethan Hooper and Blake Mullaley of the Paradise Atom B Warriors. They’ll have to share the prize and shop together at Sportscraft. Kethan had a moment he’ll long remember and share with his teammates, allowing only three goals from the Goulds Pacers on twelve rounds of shoot-out before his teammate Jaxon Montague would score the deciding goal to win their semi-final series in exciting fashion at Goulds Arena. Kethan, along with cage partner Blake Mullaley, only surrendered one goal in two opening round games against the CBR Renegades and followed by giving up only four regulation time goals to the Goulds Pacers over two games. The pair have shared in two shut-outs over four play-off games. Second Star goes to Chase Sears of the CBR Atom A Renegades. The speedy Captain scored the tying and winning goals in the Renegades 4-3 semi-final opener win over the Blades. In the series clincher, Chase assisted on the goal that set up the exciting shoot-out finish. This kid seems to play like his first name, always chasing the win. ‏Third Star goes to JD Trainor of the Paradise Warriors. JD’s team wrote their ticket to the division final with a sweep of a gutsy Caps squad this past week. The first place Warriors have a strong offensive attack and Trainor is an important part of it. An early season injury long behind him, JD popped a pair of goals in the semi-final series and added an assist. But what really made him stand out to his coaches was his strong forechecking and penalty killing, key components of solid team play. Finally, Honorable Mention goes to Jaxon Smith of the Peewee B Blades for his beauty of a shoot-out goal against the Eagles to extend the semi-final series to the max. Three Stars can pick up their gift certificates at Sportscraft on Ropewalk Lane as of Monday.
